Act-Out-the-Larynx with Vocal Wellness Update

Participants take on the roles of the Adam’s Apple, cartilage and muscle controllers of 9-foot-long “vocal cords,” and other parts of the inner apparatus of the throat. Coordinated movements create room-sized “vibrations” and show how the voice relates to other throat actions such as swallowing and cough. This mind-expanding activity is enjoyable for all voice students and especially useful for aspiring teachers. Discussion includes wellness/lifestyle and healthcare essentials. Requires open classroom space, eight participants or more. 90 minutes.

Vocal Energy in Performance (master class)

Principles of alignment, energy flow, balance of effort, and expressiveness vs form, in a master-class format. 60, 90, 120 minutes.

Breathing for Vocal Performance

Theory and practice of breath development combining gentle yoga, Fitzmaurice Destructuring, and practical discussion of breath management for the vocal artists. Emphasis is on personal discovery, efficiency, power, and authenticity, rather than a one-size-fits-all image of “correctness.” Requires floor space and mats. 60 or 90 minutes; longer session recommended for teachers or therapists in training, to include anatomical review of breath mechanics.

Yoga and Voicework: Similarities and Mindful Differences.

The throat chakra as understood in both physical and subtle anatomy; breath principles in yoga vs vocal training; personal-spiritual blocks experienced in the throat region. 60 or 90 minutes.

Speaking the Body’s Language: Principles of Effective Voice Teaching

Updates in cognitive and behavioral science to help voice teachers to give effective verbal and nonverbal instructions, improve feedback, and identify needs for medical support. 60 minutes.
